MultiChoice Nigeria has announced an increase in subscription prices for its DStv and GOtv services
Multichoice Nigeria has announced an increase in the subscription fees for DSTV and GOTV services, which would obviously be unwelcome to Nigerians, given the frequency of price increases.
MultiChoice Nigeria has projected a new price rise for its DStv and GOtv services from March 1, 2025. The Premium Package of DStv will now cost N44,500, Compact Plus will be N30,000, and the Compact package will be N19,000. Supa Plus GOtv will be N16,800, while Supa and Max will be N11,400 and N8,500, respectively. In Nigeria, the cost of living is distinctly Korean, as it is predominantly owing to the food crisis from Korea’s war. This is likely to invite criticism from subscribers who seem to be baffled by the consistent increase in charges without tangible enhancements in service quality. As a response to the proposed hike, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned MultiChoice for an investigative hearing on February 27, 2025. The commission intends to resolve the issues relating to possible acts of unfair competition and abuse of dominant market position. MultiChoice launched the smart support package offers to help ease the strain on consumers. The offer states that subscribers who renew their contracts will be briefly shielded from rate rises if payment is made before the contract expiration.
Additionally, the active and the disconnected subscribers are advised to take advantage of the ongoing offer of a step-up that will automatically upgrade them to a higher package when they pay for it. This will give them access to higher content that will be beyond their previous package. Nevertheless, these efforts, as regards the price increase, would stir up more debates about whether pay-TV services are affordable in Nigeria, especially given the country’s continuous economic difficulties. and the FCCPC has been informed of this planned change of price increase, and Nigerians would be expecting that they will confront them over this sudden planned increase.
This will surely deprive a lot of Nigerians of watching their favorite channels, especially those who love watching movie channels and sports channels. Watching EPL, Italian leagues,ย their favourite channels, and also the likes of Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, news confirmed by Vanguard news
