Will the sacking of Ruben Amorim have a significant impact on Manchester United
The debate amongst football pundits on Manchester United’s woes is back on for yet another season. Is it the manager, the tactics, or the formation? All relevant questions, but the truth is the issues at Manchester United go far beyond who stands on the touchline or the formation on the day.
The club has appointed manager after manager since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson, all with differing philosophies and tactics. The same cycle continues, with “optimism” followed by inconsistent performances, the dressing room divided, and results plummeting. The issues seem to be beyond footballing.
Few would argue that recruiting has been an issue. Vast amounts of money were spent, but all at the wrong players, and the details of the purchases rarely fit the club’s long-term vision. Impulsive recruitment to chase commercials, or in some cases, panic-buying players, has been justified, all at the expense of squandering the footballing vision of the club’s manager.
It would not be wrong to say that the same issues exist in the Manchester United boardroom. The executive decisions taken are lacking in initiative or creativity. There have been large gaps of time with no clear footballing vision, solid sporting leadership, or accountability. All that has resulted is a lack of coherence. The managers of the club are left to tackle the day-to-day issues, as there is no owner to tackle the bigger picture. 9jaProPredict
There has been criticism regarding the mentality of the players. It seems like United has moments of struggle during moments of high pressure. They seem to lack the intensity during important moments, especially against teams that they are expected to beat, and indeed, they lack the confidence to turn things around. In the opening matches of the season, Sporting has been consistently leading the charge throughout the matches. However, cultural problems like the ones mentioned are not things that can be changed overnight with just a simple change in formation.
The sacking of Rúben Amorim just begs the question of exactly what Amorim’s impact is. Amorim’s impact, if any, is likely to be short-term, and if that’s the game that United is playing, then that’s exactly what is going to leave United with all of the structural problems in place. Amorim’s absence will likely leave the players with a sort of extemporaneous pressure to solve things in the dressing room and perhaps even give the club a little bit of a breather to work with in the short term. In light of the previous paragraph, it follows that the absence of Amorim is, in fact, the symptom of the club’s problem, as opposed to solving the problem at hand.
Rebuilding an identity, restoring standards, and aligning every level of the club toward a clear football vision is going to be the most important thing that will need to be done in order for the Red Devils to become a Premier League powerhouse once again. In order for Manchester United to become the elite powerhouse in England, it will take a lot more than just tactics and formations. It will take faith, and if that faith can be instilled throughout every level in the club, it will lead to the challenging times that are ahead so that the Red Devils may become a Premier League powerhouse once again. Until that happens, the problems are likely to persist, regardless of who is in charge.
